Materials:

  • Video Camera
  • Props
  • Setting

Directions:

  1. With your kids, create an idea for a story. Write the story down. Try to keep it short, about 15 minutes to read out loud.
  2. Go through the script to check for any possible mistakes.
  3. You will operate the video camera. If a scene is dangerous, then you can help to make it safer. If something goes wrong, you'll be there to help fix it.
  4. With your kids, choose a setting that is safe and easy to get to. Backyards, neighborhood parks, and family rooms make excellent stages.
  5. Come up with ideas for props, for example simple household objects.
  6. Have the kids rehearse until they feel comfortable.
  7. Check the lighting, the camcorder, and get the kids into their costumes.
  8. Ready, set, action! Start filming! You've created your own family masterpiece!
