When it's hot, there's nothing like water games to cool kids down. Here's some things I've tried with my kids.

Bubble Pool:

Add bubble solution to the kids' wading pool. Use three fourths cup of dishwashing liquid soap for each gallon of water, and one or two cups of glycerin. Before using it, you should wait for a few hours. Then the kids can jump in and enjoy a "bubble swim." And don't forget to bring along bubble pipes and wands so they can blow bubbles.

Squirt Gun Fun:

You can make a game out of this, so it doesn't get out of hand. Turn on the water sprinkler. The child who is "it" gets the squirt gun. He stands on a marked spot, about 15 feet from the sprinkler (depending on how powerful your squirt gun is.) Each child takes a turn running through the sprinkler in a line perpendicular to the "it" person(A). (A) gets one chance to squirt (B). If (B) gets past without being squirted, then (B) gets the squirt gun. If (B) is hit, he/she has to go back to the end of the sprinkler line and start over.

Water Balloons:

Kids love to toss water balloons. You can organize this into a game. Besides the old stand-bys, Water Balloon Toss and Capture the Water Balloon, you can have a Water Balloon "Splat" contest. Get the kids on a high spot over a hot pavement, and the closest one wins.
